The grand prologue to John’s gospel declares that Jesus became flesh, an earthy word that means the substance of all living things. The prologue also reminds us that all things came to be in Jesus. What if saving the world and creating the world are the same thing? Death and decay become part of a process, not an ending. God’s creative accompaniment in suffering make the cock crow a moment of new life, not of despair.
