Reclaiming Connection in a Time of Crisis: An Author Talk with Eileen Flanagan
Eileen Flanagan
January 25, 2026

Join us for an author talk with veteran Quaker organizer, Eileen Flanagan. In her latest book, Common Ground, Flanagan weaves together inspiring stories of grassroots organizing against the huge companies most responsible for climate change. As heat waves, wildfires, storms, and floods become ever more deadly and widespread, the book shows how ordinary people can build powerful movements for change when they find common ground and take action together.
In addition to strategy lessons for our times, Eileen Flanagan shows that “the illusion of separation” – the fallacy that we are separate from each other and the Earth that sustains us – is at the root of our interlocking environmental crises, and that it’s often politicians and corporations who benefit by keeping the rest of us divided by race, class, religion, and generation. More than technology or even elections, Flanagan shows that acting in solidarity with all life is humanity’s best hope for survival. These are the same lessons that can help us resist authoritarianism.
Eileen Flanagan’s book, Common Ground: How the Crisis of the Earth is Saving Us from our Illusion of Separation, will be on sale in Cranaleith’s gift shop and she will sign copies after the program.
