Sankofa Song Encore: A New Negro Spiritual for the I.C.E. Age
Warren B. Cooper
June 14, 2026
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!
Sankofa is an African principal of carrying the best pieces of our past with us to ensure we build a solid future. It’s based on the proverb of Ghana’s Ashanti Akan tribe, “it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot“.
This program is an audio-visual musical journey – through the history of the Negro Spiritual, into the realm of its significance in this day and time. In these historic moments, where the priorities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are reaching to extinguish the constitutional flames of human rights and common decency, this presentation reaches prophetically beyond Race and Culture for a look into the New Face of Freedom – a look that sees a way forward for all people.
SANKOFA SONG is an inspirational, informational, interactive experience that blends Music, Images, Oratorio and Community to refresh and ignite hope and optimism, while focusing intently on an organized response to the emerging threats to our democracy. The themes will examine the nature of identity and belonging; create a hopeful vision for the future of Freedom; and plot a path for organizing ourselves into a unified voice for Equity, Justice and Peace.
Cranaleith Spiritual Center & Music Media Ministry invite you and anyone who cares about the direction of our nation and the rights of “all” to join us.
