The Embodied Spiritual Exercises (6 Sessions)
Bethany Weed
March 4 - April 15, 2026
The Embodied Spiritual Exercises is a six week virtual series that uses an embodiment perspective to deepen our understanding of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius. Although Ignatian spirituality encourages us to use our senses in prayer, much of the work on the exercises to date prioritizes the intellect and imagination over other sensory experiences. This series will deepen our engagement with his meditations by incorporating somatic elements into them.
Each 90 minute session will include movement, prayer, and conversation. The first week will introduce the concept of embodied prayer. The middle four weeks will explore somatic practices related to the four weeks, or themes, of the spiritual exercises, and the final week will be for us to gather our graces and look ahead. Familiarity with the Spiritual Exercises is recommended.
