The World in Silent Stillness Waits: An Eco-Spiritual Advent Evening of Reflection
Bernadette Rudolph
December 15, 2026
Advent is a season of delight, joy, generosity… and waiting. Although American culture often struggles with or even rejects waiting, all spiritual traditions recognize its value. Because nature itself has periods of quiet and waiting, Christianity has tied its Advent celebration of waiting to the time of shorter days and sleeping trees in more northerly latitudes. What might happen if we experience the wisdom of the Earth in the stillness of December?
Join in an evening of quiet reflection with the beauty of the stars moving across the sky, the seeming death of the plants and trees and the Earth’s shortened days. Their life in this bleak time is not without its purposes. Since we are made of the same stuff, what happens for them happens for us.
We’ll use prayer, journaling, art, poetry, Scripture, music and discussion to join Nature in waiting humbly and reverently for the Advent coming of our God.
