Derek Dietz

Derek is a joyful practitioner of yoga, mindfulness, and qigong who loves sharing these practices in the spirit of humility and service. Rooted in the Plum Village tradition, the 12-step fellowship, and inspired by eastern wisdom traditions such as yoga, Daoism, and Vipassana, Derek finds the deepest meaning in being of service to humanity.

Holding multiple yoga certifications in diverse styles, Derek especially enjoys offering practice to children, people in recovery, and those who may not usually have access to or feel comfortable with these practices. He believes these teachings are beneficial for all beings, and his intention is that every space he helps facilitate is welcoming, inclusive, and grounded in the truth that all we need is our breath and an open heart.

Beyond teaching, Derek is the founder of Compassion Kitchens, a humanitarian aid organization supporting food-insecure children in South America, and also works part time in the Kitchen here at Cranaleith helping provide nourishing meals to our retreatants and guests.
